Less noise, pleasant temperatures and an island beginning to rediscover its own rhythm.

Talking about autumn in Formentera does not necessarily mean talking about cold weather, grey days or plans that move indoors.

Here, the change of season is experienced differently.

Temperatures become milder, the beaches regain their space, the paths invite you to explore them without the heat of the height of summer, and the villages remain lively, but at a different pace.

The Mediterranean is still there.

Only the way you enjoy it changes.

When the island begins to slow down

October arrives almost without making a sound.

The days still allow plenty of time outdoors, and the island enters one of those periods when there is no need to choose between the beach and other plans.

Walking, cycling, discovering the villages, sitting on a terrace or heading down to the sea continue to be part of everyday life.

But something changes.

There is more space. More silence. More time.

Perhaps that is why autumn is one of the best times to discover a side of Formentera that can sometimes go unnoticed during the island's busiest months.

What to do in Formentera in October?

The island slowing down does not mean it comes to a standstill.

In fact, October 2026 brings together sport, culture, gastronomy, music and activities connected to nature. The official programme includes the XII Triatlón Illa de Formentera on 3 October, the Formentera Mira al Cel astronomical observation event on 9 October and a variety of cultural activities throughout the month.

And on 10 October, the 15K Formentera Sunset Run will once again turn the landscape into a running course. The third edition will begin at 6:00 pm and feature 15K and 5K routes, making the final light of the day part of the race itself.

Two days later, on 12 October, the traditional Pujada a la Mola will take place, while from 12 to 25 October the Gastronomic Weeks will put the spotlight on the island's cuisine and local produce.

It is another way to discover Formentera: by taking part in it.

Looking at the landscape again

Without the pace of July and August, some places seem different.

The beaches invite you to take longer walks. Secondary roads make cycling around the island even more appealing. Dirt tracks once again become a way to reach places that, during summer, may have been little more than a quick stop.

And sunsets arrive earlier.

Not necessarily to make the day shorter, but to change its rhythm.

The official Formentera in Autumn campaign, running from 27 September to 31 October 2026, focuses precisely on these weeks as a time to enjoy the landscape, gastronomy, sport, culture and outdoor activities at a more relaxed pace.

Another way to experience Formentera

Perhaps autumn here is not so much about a season as it is about a feeling.

The feeling of having space again.

Of being able to improvise.

Of coming back from the beach and deciding what to do next.

Of discovering that Formentera does not end when summer does.

At Paya Hotels, we like to think that every season reveals a different side of the island.

And when autumn arrives, Formentera simply speaks a little more softly.
